WGEA gender equity targets

The targets are law. Here’s how to meet them and get ahead.

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency’s (WGEA) new gender equality targets apply to all Australian employers with 500 or more employees. WORK180 offers tailored support packages to help you set meaningful targets, demonstrate progress, and build the workplace that women want to join.

10+

What this means for your organisation

New requirements. Real consequences. A clear path forward.

WGEA’s Gender Equality Targets require Australian employers with 500 or more employees to set and report on targets across key areas of gender equity. These are a legal requirement, not aspirational guidelines. Employers that fail to meet reporting obligations risk losing the ability to tender for government contracts and may face public disclosure of non-compliance.

Wherever your organisation is starting from, there is a clear path forward. WORK180 has supported hundreds of employers through exactly this kind of structured DEI progress — with the data, the benchmarks, and the expertise to help you set targets that are both meaningful and achievable.

Who this applies to
Australian employers with 500 or more employees must set gender equality targets and report to the WGEA.
Target areas typically include

Frequently asked questions

Does my organisation have to comply with WGEA gender equality targets?

If your organisation has 500 or more employees in Australia, yes. The WGEA gender equality targets are a legal requirement that came into effect on 1 April 2026. We recommend booking a meeting with our team as soon as possible to understand your starting point and what to prioritise.

We already have some DEI initiatives in place. Where does WORK180 fit in?

Most organisations we work with have existing initiatives. The challenge is usually that they’re not connected to measurable targets or formal reporting frameworks. WORK180 helps you build on what’s working, identify gaps, and structure your efforts in a way that satisfies WGEA requirements while driving genuine progress.

How quickly can we get started?

We can typically begin a scoping conversation within one to two weeks of your initial meeting. The timeline from scoping to delivery depends on the package and your organisation’s readiness — your Account Manager will set clear expectations once we understand your needs.

Can WORK180 support us with the actual WGEA reporting?

Yes. WGEA reporting support is available as part of our tailored DEI project services. We can help you understand your reporting obligations, prepare your data, and structure your submission.

What if we're not ready for the "Starting strong" package yet?

Talk to us. We’ll be honest with you about where you are and what the right starting point looks like. Even if you’re at the very beginning, we can help you take the first step — and early action gives you more time to demonstrate meaningful progress.

The targets are in effect. Let’s get you on the right path.
